Mark Shapiro's web page! To Enforce a Judgment, visit www.GoGuys.com A Judgment Enforcement, database, technical , and Internet-savvy "GoGuy" (a legend in my own mind); I was the one who created BABBA magazine, West Coast Online magazine, and West Coast Online - the ISP (before it was sold to Verio). Check out the old issues of BABBA and WCO Magazines. Check out some funny stuff, some (takes a while to load) songs I've recorded, a lens tutorial and selector, my "formal" resume or (informal resume) or about my trip to Bangkok. What's the best reminder program on earth? It's (the late) John R. McMullen's Early Bird. It's only available on the Mac. MacSoup is the best-designed Usenet reader around - and it's only on the Mac.
I'm a big fan of
OS 9.22. OSX? I'm not overly impressed for the average desktop user. (As a Server, it's ok)
Apple needs to put every feature in
OS9.22 into OSX - we need a location manager, we need a control strip, we need the ability to make
a full backup/restore simply by copying to another hard drive. We still want a Chooser.
I had hoped Apple would make OSX like OS9.22 with Unix under the hood. Oh well, they gave up on OS9's features
- so after 22 years, I kind of gave up on them, and bought a Dell with
Windows XP and a dozen anti-spam, anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, and constant patching to the OS. If Apple uses
a PC chip, and has no more support for OS9, then I might as well use Windows... Oh No! Vista! Ok, OSX is better than
Vista - so I'm leaning back toward Apple again! (Still using OS9.22 most of the time)
Some neat technical sites are at: www.samspade.org, www.systemtools.com, and www.dnsexpert.com and www.klos.com - for software-based protocol analyzers. Also check out www.ProVue.com And a great Email and web server is FirstClass. This site built with BBEdit - the best Mac text/html editing tool. "Never attach importance to the superficial at the expense of the essential." Most of us focus too much on the Goal - not on the journeys to goals - which is where we spend our lives. We think things like "On a certain day, at a certain hour we will reach our goal." Once we reach our goal our dreams will come true, and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, waiting for the destination. We think things like "When I'm 18." "When I buy a new Mercedes Benz!" "When I put the last kid through college." "When I have paid off the mortgage!" "When I get a promotion." "When I reach the age of retirement." There is no place to arrive. The true joy of life is the trip. The destination is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. Life must be lived as we go along. |
